Purpose
The Ohio Historical Markers Grants Program was instituted in 2006 to help organizations and communities defray the cost of historical markers.
How to Apply
- Indicate interest in applying for funding by responding affirmatively to “Check if applying for funding through Ohio Historical Markers Grants Program” on application form (Will load in new window).
- Submit a copy of the completed application and supporting documentation to the Local History Office.
- There are two application rounds per year with submittal deadlines two weeks prior to Ohio Historical Markers Advisory Panel meetings in April and October.
Awards
- Up to 20 marker applications per year can be selected to receive $750 to be used to defray the total cost of a historical marker, which range from $1,900 - $2,150.
- Applications featuring topics with state and national significance may take precedence over those with primarily local significance.
- Applications from counties with few historical markers may take precedence over those from counties with many historical markers.
- Applicants who do not receive funding may resubmit application for same topic in another round or pay the total cost of the marker.
Notification
- Applicants will be notified within two weeks of the Advisory Panel’s decision.
